About the event

‘Bilingual education’ refers to educational systems with two languages as media of instruction.

In Nigeria, bilingual education integrates English and a mother tongue as media of instruction. Nonetheless, the system is second-language focused and aimed at getting proficiency in English.

Limited proficiency in English, the medium of instruction, can be a barrier to learning, particularly for young learners.

In this webinar, our trainer, Andreea Dogar, will:

  • Be giving an introduction to bilingualism and the research behind language support in bilingual classrooms.
  • Explore what language scaffolding looks like in practice in the classroom and analyse a lesson plan which integrates the 4 language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing
  • Be equipping us with the understanding, strategies, and tools necessary to ensure that English does not constitute a barrier to learning and that pupils have the linguistic scaffolding they need to succeed.
  • Look at the benefits of language support for teaching and learning, as well as at some of the common misconceptions in this area.

As with all our events, punctuality is the key to not missing out on most of the essentials of this event. We will also encourage you to invite your friends and colleagues as we work together to provide quality education in our schools.

See you soon!
